After the Engagement-6

SIXTH ENTRY

It was from… Mark. Clary checked the message and it said,
Mark: Jace, we are all ready to go. Emma, Jules and I. Let’s go find out the truth.
Clary was confused. What truth? Head where? Why Emma, Julian and Mark? Why was Jace hiding this from Clary? He usually never does. He never hides anything.
Clary didn’t want to wake him up then so she walked out of the room, putting the phone back down onto the bed.
She had slowly closed the door thinking about the “so-called” truth. Maybe something related to the Wild Hunt? No. Why would Emma and Julian be involved? Nothing else had struck Clary’s mind. I mean, why is Jace hiding something from me? THAT TOO, something that involves Mark and the others!
Clary had paced around the Institute waiting for time to pass by. Waiting for Jace to wake up. The clock hands moved so slowly and Jace didn’t wake up for about 2 hours. Finally, Clary heard Jace’s door creak open, and she didn’t want to burst out with questions.
****
He ran his hand through his messed up hair and his drowsy eyes looked at Clary, like she was anxious. Jace wondered why and asked quite concerned, “What happened babe?”
Clary had sternly looked Jace in the eye and said, “Jace. You aren’t hiding anything from me, right?” Jace stuttered slightly and said, “Uh. “ He was scared if Clary got to know what he was up to. If she knew that he was going straight into war just for her. Just for her safety. That he would probably get his Marks stripped off by disobeying the Clave’s orders which were not to start conflict before the Wild Hunt did.
Jace told Clary, “Maybe you should sit down,” because he wasn’t going to keep anything from Clary, again.
****
“No! I want to come!” screamed Clary. Jace said with a higher voice than last time, “No Clary. You haven’t trained enough! If anything happened to you, I just can’t. Plus, I almost lost you once, Im not going to test my luck!”
Clary said with a calm tone, “Jace Herondale. I’ve trained for quite a while, and I think Im perfectly good with my offense and defense. I should be the one testing my luck, not you or anyone. That’s what being a shadowhunter is about. About defending and fighting for yourself. Not by putting anyone else in danger. Especially you.”
Jace pleaded, “Clary, I’ve trained my whole life. My whole life for becoming a shadowhunter. Now, I assure you, you aren’t putting me in any danger.”
“But Jace-“
“I am. I’m putting myself there. In danger. For you. Because, I’d do anything for you. You are my other half. Wait, you are three-fourth of me. Because, I really need that one-fourth, hun,” Jace said smiling.
Clary tried hard not to smile, grinned as Jace pulled her into a hug. Clary immediately pushed back and said, “Jace, I really don’t support this. I really don’t support this idea. At all. Especially when Emma and the boys are going along with you. Just for me. Plus, I don’t even know what you guys are going to do once you go there! Like 4 of you guys against the hundreds of faes?”
Jace said quite composed, “Clary, we aren’t exactly going to fight them. We’re just going to go there, and I assume you read my text, so, we’re just going to go and find out the truth. Just like what Mark said.”
Clary nodded and silently went away. Jace saw Clary wipe her eyes as if there were tears. Or there were.

After the Engagement-5

FIFTH ENTRY
Clary woke up in her old, mundane room. Luke had offered to clean up the old house instead of buying a new one as Clary wished. Clary has wondered what her life would have been like without her mom being a shadowhunter. Oh, wait. She wouldn’t be there then. But, if her mom and Valentine were mundanes. She’d have a normal life, with a brother and two working parents. On the other side, this abnormal had completely changed her life in a good and bad way. She had met amazing people like Jace, Iz, Alec and Magnus. If she could ever chose between these 2 lives, it’ll be the Shadowhunter life.
Clary snapped out of thoughts as her phone vibrated for a second. She grabbed her phone and saw over 2 messages from Izzy and Jace.
Iz: Clare, Alec’s in a coma. You need to come. Now
Jace: Alec is in a coma.
What? Alec? Possibly the most protective and careful shadowhunter? No, no, no, no. Why do these things always happen to me? Clary put on proper clothes and rushed to the institute to find Jace sitting outside Alec’s room.
She held Jace’s hands and asked him, “What happened?” Jace looked up and Clary saw his eyes all red and puffy. She’d only seen Jace cry a few times. Her eyes soon filled with tears, but she had to hold them back for Jace. To give him the courage he’d always given her. He slowly said, “Typical car accident. Doctor said he’ll be in a coma for 6 months,” and held her arms, pulled her closer and said, “6 MONTHS, CLARY!”
“At least, he’ll be out soon, Jace. Thank the Angel, I thought the Wild Hunt did something! Jace its okay. When I was 15, I was in a coma too. For 2 months. I don’t remember why.  It’ll be fine.”
Clary hugged Jace and saw Isabelle come out of the room. Iz saw Clary and pulled Clary into her room which was across Alec’s.
Isabelle burst into tears. She said between the sobs and gasped, ‘”Cl-Cl-Clary. I-It was not a-an accident. The W-Wild Hunt. It was them, Clary. Magnus, he helped. He doesn’t want to tell Jace the truth. He wants to tell him at the right time. L-Like after Alec is up or something. He doesn’t want too much stress on him.”
Clary couldn’t agree with Magnus. Jace could take anything. He took in the fact of Clary being his sister. He took in the fact of Valentine being his father. He could definitely take this in. Clary slowly said as Iz calmed down, “Who all know about this?” Izzy said everyone knew about Alec getting into an accident, but only You, Magnus and herself who knew.
Clary nodded but didn’t settle with Jace not knowing this. She called Simon in so he could accompany Isabelle. She went to Jace’s room and saw him snoozing with his phone in his hand. He was sitting on a wooden chair with a cushion.  He looked so peaceful when he slept. His blonde hair was slightly messed up and the beam of sunlight was shining on few strands which made his hair look lighter than always. His phone was about to fall out of his hand and so she slowly walked over to him and took the phone out of his hand. She had put it on the bed and kissed his hair.

Jace’s phone started to vibrate. She picked up the phone and saw a message. It was from…

After the Engagement - 4

Clary laughed and said, “Jace, your excuses are getting lamer every day. Can someone tell me why I can’t go home, or are you just saying this because you don’t want me going home?”
Simon put one of his hands on Clary’s shoulder and said, “No, Clary. Jace is telling the truth. The Wild Hunt, they actually want you.
Clary’s face darkened. Her eyes turned into fierce emeralds and she swept her long, red hair to the side. She then broke the silence by croaking, “What?”
Isabelle replied, “Yes. They want you. They want Valentine Morgenstern’s daughter. They want to turn her into something we always knew you’ll never be. You know what we are talking about, right?”
Clary was strong. She had fought Valentine, Sebastian or as Mom would like to say, Jonathon and here I am. Here I am with my loved ones. She knew, that the Wild Hunt always got what they wanted, but one thing was what she did not get. How could shadowhunters even turn into faeries? Of course, the Seelie Queen. She wanted to be on the winning side. Of course she helped.
Clary immediately felt like her head was spinning. She thought she was going to puke, but instead, everything blacked out and Clary felt herself falling into Jace’s arms.

Clary opened her eyes, and found herself in Jace’s bed. She then saw Jace sitting in the white chair, snoozing. She thought to herself, ‘how does Jace even manage to keep his room so clean? All the girls other probably would faint if they saw Jace and then how clean his room is. Wait, speaking of fainting, how long have I been out?’
Clary felt a delicate and warm touch on her fingers and shivered. Jace then said, “Exactly 24 hours, Fire.”
Clary sighed as she felt Jace’s hand tighten around hers. She said, “How did you know what I was thinking about, Goldilocks?”
Jace laughed, “I always know what you are thinking about. It’s either my amazing face or body.”
Clary hit his arm and then said, “What happened?”
Jace said, “Nothing much other than you fainting. Izzy postponed the party to next week and your mom is waiting outside.”
Clary shook her head and said, “I’m still angry at you, though. For not telling me about Mom.”
Jace gave her his signature smirk and then said, “Really? After all I’ve done? Oh, wait. You’re probably waiting for me to do this,” and he slowly moved his head towards Clary. Clary put her finger on his lips and said, “Nuh-uh. I’m not doing anything with my mom standing outside.”
Jace groaned and helped Clary out of her bed. Jace made sure Clary was steady and then opened the door for her.
Jocelyn was worried sick. Probably sicker than Clary. She said in a hurry, “Clary, Oh, and Clary. How are you baby?”
Clary smiled to the rhyme in her sentence and murmured, “I’m not dead, mom.”
Jocelyn slowly started, “So, um, you know about me and the Wild Hunt?”
Clary tried to smile, but failed, “Yes, mom. Congrats. And, I’m gonna die.”
Jocelyn didn’t sense the humor in that and said, “Oh, baby. Don’t say stuff like that.”

Jace started to laugh, but put his hand on his mouth and walked away.

The Infernal Devices

HEY <3
Okay, so currently I’m reading (obsessing over) the Infernal Devices. I just cannot get enough of these amazing people. Wait, no. Not people. Shadowhunters and amazingly unusual warlocks. Yes, I’m taking about Will, Jem and Tessa. Read my previous post on the ‘terms’ used in the books by Cassandra Clare to understand better.

Before discovering the institute, Tessa Gray had a hard time. Her parents dead, her brother living somewhere else and she lived with her aunt. After few incidents that follow, she gets to know… she isn’t a mundane. She isn’t a shadowhunter and she isn’t a warlock. Well, she is partially a warlock. An unfamiliar kind of warlock. She is scared. She doesn’t know the Shadow or Down world.

When Tessa starts to look for her brother, Nathaniel Grey, she is abducted by ‘The Dark Sisters’ who are a part of this secret organization called The Pandemonium Club. She then shape shifts into a 14 year girl, who was just killed, and realized she could shape shift afterwards. She is attacked by this people called Downworlders and realizes she is one of them.

William Herondale, a Shadowhunter, comes to rescue her, and takes her to the institute.

She is taken to the Institute and meets Charlotte Barnwell, Henry Barnwell, Sophie Collins and Jessasmine Lovelace. She then meets James ‘Jem’ Carstairs.
Jem and Will, both shadowhunters and are each other’s parabatai. They legit would die for each other. But Jem, has this illness. This illness where he would die without taking this drug called ‘yin fen.’

When Jem had gotten to the New York Institute from the Shanghai Institute, he told them that his parents were killed by a demon, and that he would only live by taking the drug, though his lifespan would be limited.

Will on the other hand is distant to everyone, but shows interest in Tessa. (You’ll get to know more about Will if you read the trilogy) This is where there is a triangle, like Jace, Simon and Clary but this isn’t the main plot. Why would I tell you the main plot? All I can say is, Tessa is being hunted down by someone who wants her abilities.

Shadowhunter Glossary

ACCORDS:
An agreement that ordains how Shadowhunters and Downworlders may interact, as well as each group’s rights, responsibilities, and restrictions.

CLAVE:
The collective name for the political body made up of all active Nephilim. All Shadowhunters that recognize the authority of Idris make up the Clave. When Shadowhunters reach adulthood at age eighteen, they declare their allegiance and become full Clave members.

CONCLAVE/ENCLAVE:
Smaller, more regional groups of Shadowhunters (ex: a specific country or sometimes a particularly large city) that coordinate their own local decision making and organizational structures as they see fit, although the Clave as a whole is responsible for placing Shadowhunters in charge of specific Institutes, and the Clave may intercede in cases where a Conclave/Enclave is organized in some way that is against the spirit of the Nephilim as a whole.

CONSUL:
The highest appointed official in the Clave—the equivalent of a prime minister, rather than a king or president. They wield little executive power but rather serve to preside over the Council, to officially tally its votes, and to help interpret the Law.

COUNCIL:
The governing body of the Clave, which deals with matters of immediate importance that are not large enough for the entire Clave to become involved in. Local Enclaves/Conclaves choose representatives to sit on the Council.
IDRIS:
Shadowhunters’ secret country, hidden in Central Europe. It’s capital, and only city, is Alicante, and is where the Council resides, and where Clave meetings are held.
IRON SISTERS:
The Sisters design and forge weapons for the Nephilim; they are the keepers of adamas, the holy metal given by Raziel to use. They reside in the Adamant Citadel, which is even more hidden than the Silent City.

MARKS:
The most common tools of the Shadowhunter, and the source of their ability to fight the demonic Incursion at all, are the Marks of Raziel, a complex runic language given by the Angel to grant powers beyond mundanes. Some Marks are applied to the bodies of Shadowhunters, and some are applied to physical objects. (See Runes Page)

PARABATAI:
Parabatai are Shadowhunters who have taken an oath in front of the Council to fight together as lifelong partners. A Shadowhunter may choose only one parabatai in their lifetime and cannot perform the ritual more than once. Like the marriage bond, the parabatai bond is broken only by the death of one of the members of the partnership.

SILENT BROTHERS:
The Brothers serve as the keepers of lore and knowledge. They are the librarians, researchers, and medics for the Nephilim. They reside in the Silent City, a place deep underground.

STELE (‘STEH-LAY’):

The device (and fundamental tool) used to inscribe Marks. Stele are wand like instruments made of pure adamas. They are inert when not in use but when taken up, glow and warm with the magic of the Marks.

Downworlders and Shadowhunters

Downworlders or Shadowhunters

v  Shadowhunters - Shadowhunters (also known as Nephilim) are the appointed warriors on Earth of the Angel Raziel. They are appointed specifically to control and preside over the demons and supernatural creatures that reside in our world. A thousand years ago Raziel bestowed the tools to accomplish this task.
v  These tools are :

1.       The Mortal Instruments—used so Shadowhunters may know truth, speak with angels, and make more of their kind.
2.       The country of Idris—where Shadowhunters live away from demons and the mundane world.
3.       The Book of Raziel (or “Gray Book”)—used by Shadowhunters to access the magic of angels to protect and augment themselves.

v  Downworlders - Once demons began to trespass into the lives of humans, the waters of good and evil became muddied, and the muddied waters of humanity became Downworlders. Some Downworlders—warlocks and the fey—predate the Nephilim by untold years. But the youngest Downworlders, werewolves and vampires, are a relatively recent phenomenon.

1.       Werewolves - Lycanthropy transforms a human into a Werewolf. Werewolves in their lupine form are not merely wolves. They possess unnatural strength and speed, and their claws and fangs are able to slash through a chain-line fence or bite through a padlock.

2.       Vampires- Vampires are victims of another demonic infection, which turns them into drinkers of blood. They possess retractable razor-like fangs that are deployed when their bloodlust is roused. The act of drinking blood brings a rush of energy and vitality to the vampire.

3.       Fairies – Fairies are the least understood of all magical people. They are people—they have souls. They are found in countless varieties, sizes, and types, and in all environments. The magic of the fey is unique in the world.

4.       Warlocks- Warlocks are the offspring of demons and mundanes. All warlocks possess a “warlock mark” on their body that identifies them as not merely human. Warlocks possess the ability to perform magic – it is their magic that makes them the most powerful of Downworlders and the most closely tied to Shadowhunters, though, unlike Nephilim, warlocks inherently possess magic.
